I've completed 5 new paintings for a meditation app for kids. This app is free and is available in the Apple App Store. You can check out the paintings on my site in the New Paintings section or by clicking on the Sleeping Octopus image below.
People often ask me what inspires me and its often not an easy question to answer. I have always had a need to create since I can remember and that is my first and foremost drive. But my choice in subject matter is another question. its pretty obvious I like animals and I like color as these are dominant in my paintings. However there's a little more to it than that. I would say a big source of inspiration is trying to do what I can to make the world a better place, in whatever gifts I have to offer.
All anyone has to do is turn on the news to see the pain and suffering in the world. Creating joyful happy art is my very small part in trying to make the world a better place. Imagine if we were surrounded by things that made us happy and brought us joy, you might think there would be less violence and suffering in the world. I often have customers tell me my art makes them smile and I feel so incredibly lucky that I can create something that has this effect on people. Smiles and laughter literally changes body chemistry for the better. Smiles, Joy and Laughter heals!
I believe that the energy we put out in the world is what we get back. That we attract what we put out. In my adult life I've focused on what i can control and I realized that we can ALWAYS control how we choose to see the world and this will change our whole lives. I made a conscious choice around the age of 12 to see the good in life and in people. This isn't always easy, it's not an achievement but a regular practice, it takes work. But it is always rewarding.
Its not uncommon for my favorite paintings to be the least popular. The wacky ones make me laugh the most. This little guy came across through me onto my sketchbook and he was just too adorable and sad for me to not bring his story to life.
His home is now an 8x10 inch canvas :)
News on the Horizon
I am working on several large scale pieces. They are too big to transport to art shows so I am looking for a gallery to represent them. I'll update you as soon as I have a show scheduled.
I am also planning a "Buy One and One Will Be Donated" project. I really love this model as its win win for everyone, especially the recipients of the donations. Target Donors will be animal welfare organizations and clinics (human and animals) that are in need of artwork. If you are interested in including your organization please reply to this email or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Smiles, Woofs and Meows,
I just finished 3 new paintings. The Howard Thurman quote is one of my all time favorite quotes but I wanted to redo the artwork for it so I have created this joyful dog version. The Emile Zola quote "Live Out Loud" was requested by several clients who wanted a "boy" version of the painting instead of the first one I did which portrays a flower and a mountain. The Cat with the heart is called "Thinking of you" and is based on my cat Sadie, who really does wait for me when I am not home. When I am home she never leaves my side. I believe this is referred to as a velcro cat, which she surely is.
